What is meant by 'voluntary' Board Member?

“Voluntary” means you are not paid but offer your services, commitment and enthusiasm for the work to the Association. The voluntary Board Member should not gain in any other way in return for his/her services, i.e. by obtaining housing for friends and family, by getting work or tenders for certain firms in which the Member has an interest.

You will be reimbursed for expenses that you incur for attending meetings or undertaking business on behalf of the Association.

In return for offering your time, you will receive the satisfaction of helping the Associations’ tenants and those in housing need to obtain a high standard of service. It will improve and enhance your skill base, and give you the opportunity to formulate policies and make decision akin to that of a Board Director in a private company.
