2011 National Census
2011 National Census
You should be aware by now that in March the National Census is taking place.
It’s absolutely vital you don’t ignore your purple form when it comes through the door – this is because funding for services like health, schools and transport where you live is dependent on information from your census answers.
The census counts the population so we need every household to fill in their form – just 11 people counted is enough to fund a teacher or a police officer in your local area. Just 7 people counted would pay for a nurse’s salary.
The answers are strictly confidential– they stay protected by law for 100 years. The government doesn’t see your answers, neither does the council. The census takes place so planners can find out how many people live in each area and what services they need funding.
Census Day is Sunday 27th March. Every household in England will get their form through the door in the coming weeks. You have to fill in information about who lives in your home and their lives, for example their ages and where they work. Everyone has to be counted, even babies and overnight visitors.
At a time when budgets are seeing huge cuts it’s more important than ever that you fill in your census form so you can get the right amount of money into your area for everyone who needs it.
You can complete the census online if that’s easier, or if you need extra help filling your form in. Go to
