Works start at Paynes & Borthwick Wharves, SE8

Paynes & Borthwick developmentHexagon is very excited to be a delivery partner of what will be a fantastic river-front development, as part of a wider regeneration and cultural ‘hub’ for the SE8 area comprising over 250 homes, commercial spaces, and a number of live-work units aimed at local artists and featuring an art gallery and restaurant. Our homes will be located in an 8 storey block.

We received a grant allocation for this scheme in the 2006/08 National Affordable Housing Programme and were planning to deliver 87 homes (44 rent and 43 shared ownership), as the section 106, affordable element of this much larger mixed use, mixed tenure project.

The works started in December 2007, but had to be halted in March 2008, for financial viability reasons.

A variation to the planning consent allowed the developer to reduce the number of affordable homes to 44 social rented apartments and help the viability of the development.

Our good reputation with the HCA and the Local Authority
(Greenwich) meant that, despite  the significant set back,
we were able to hold on to our grant allocation.

United House and private equity firm JER Partners have
combined forces in a joint venture to deliver this landmark project.

The affordable homes are scheduled to complete in June 2013.
