New Hexagon development in Greenwich

Hexagon’s most recently completed development of 8 houses in Chilver/Marlton Street, in Greenwich was handed over on 17th July 2008.

The development comprises 3 x 4 bed 7 person general needs houses; 1 x 3 bed 6 person wheelchair adapted house; 1 x 2 bed 4 person wheelchair adapted house and 3 x 2 bed 4 person shared ownership houses.  The three general needs houses face Chilver Street with the wheelchair adapted and shared ownership houses located in Marlton Street.

The site was purchased from the London Borough of Greenwich in July 2005 and was formerly a nature garden which had fallen into disuse.  Hexagon agreed to retain a 1m strip of the original garden and to preserve certain trees and shrubs on the site which have been incorporated into the gardens of the new houses.

Nominations for the general needs units were taken from Greenwich Council’s Choice Based Lettings Scheme with one property allocated from Hexagon’s Home Bid Scheme.

In spite of current market conditions offers were taken on the shared ownership properties at first viewing and all of the sales have now completed.

The houses were funded by Housing Corporation Social Housing Grant and the key funding commitments included Lifetime Homes, Secured by Design and Eco Homes ‘Good’, although the higher standard of ‘Very Good’ was actually achieved.

Lead consultants were Airey Miller Partnership and the design was drawn up by Survey & Design Partnership.

Mr. & Mrs. Oke who were allocated one of the wheelchair units in Marlton Street say “we were very excited about moving to our new home, it’s so clean and spacious and our young son has particularly benefited from the move”.
