It is a condition of your tenancy that you must get permission from Hexagon before you can keep any pet or animal in your home. The actual wording of the Tenancy Agreement is as follows:

“You must get our permission before keeping any dog or other animal. Permission will only be given where it is an animal that is likely not to cause nuisance or annoyance to neighbours and is suitable for the property. Permission will not be given for dogs covered by the Dangerous Dogs Act. Any permission can be withdrawn if we think that any animal you have is causing a nuisance to neighbours, is damaging the property, or is being ill treated. Permission to keep a guide dog will always be given to a blind or partially sighted person.”

We will consider every application to keep a pet on its own merits, and take into account any special circumstances, but set
out below are the usual guidelines that we follow when deciding whether or not to allow someone to keep a pet in a Hexagon
property. If you are thinking of getting any animal, please talk to us about it first.

Dogs
We normally only give permission to keep a dog to tenants with direct access to their own (not shared) garden. Dogs must be
under control at all times, and it is the responsibility of the dog owner to make sure their garden is ‘dog-proof’ so that the dog cannot get out. We would not normally give permission to anyone to keep more than two dogs.

Cats
We normally only give permission to keep a cat to tenants with direct access to their own (not shared) garden. We would not normally give permission to anyone to keep more than two cats.

Rabbits, hamsters, gerbils and other small mammals
Permission will normally be given for one or two such animals. Rabbits can grow to be quite big, so you should make sure you have enough room.

Fish and small reptiles
Permission will normally be given.

Budgerigars and other caged birds
Permission will normally be given. Some birds can be very noisy, however, and we would withdraw permission if the noise were a nuisance to neighbours.

Poultry and farm animals
Permission will not normally be given.
