Work experience placements pay dividends – 1 Apprenticeship, 2 Job Outcomes and 2 Work Placements

Earlier this year, our gas contractors, BSW, provided 2 work experience placements. This provided a fantastic opportunity for two young residents to experience working in a professional Call Centre dealing with a high volume of phone calls.

LuciaLucia (21) who lives in Lewisham and Kingsley (20) from Southwark, were very well received by the Personnel Manager, Juliet Morgan who gave them induction on the first day and buddied them up with BSW staff. She was very impressed with their attitude and willingness to learn and absorb new information. The feedback received from the placements was also very encouraging.

Kingsley said:
“This experience improved my confidence about answering phone calls and how to speak with customers on a professional level and also how to deal with complaints.”

Since completing his placement, Kingsley has secured an apprenticeship position with British Gas. He identified his work experience placement as a contributing factor in him securing this position, boosting his confidence in dealing with customers.

More recently, Lucia has secured a customer facing job working for a wine merchant.

While visiting the residents on placement, our Employment Project Co-ordinator, Magda Tyra, discovered that BSW were recruiting for an experienced customer services advisor. Knowing we had a potential candidate registered with the Hexagon Academy, she suggested we might be able to help. Alison Hogg had recently completed a work experience placement with Hexagon’s Customer Services Centre, so we knew she was of the calibre they were looking for. Alison subsequently secured the job and now works for BSW.

BSW also provided with Apprenticeship for Ciaran Donovan – a young Hexagon resident from Greenwich which started in May.
