During the annual Gas Safety Week, housing organisations across the UK work together to raise awareness of the dangers caused by poorly maintained gas appliances which can result in gas leaks, explosions, fires, and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.
Being conscious of Gas Safety is paramount to the safety of all our residents and we would like to remind you of what warning signs you should look out for, these being that:
- Natural gas is odourless, but gas transporters add an ‘eggy’ smell to help identify possible gas leaks. Any reported smell of gas requires urgent attention. If you think there is a leak in gas, please call Cadent urgently on 0800 111 999.
- CO gas is odourless but can be life threatening. Possible symptoms of CO poisoning can be found here.
- A healthy gas flame is blue. A gas appliance burning with a yellow flame is a sign of poor combustion and CO emissions and requires immediate attention.
If you have concerns about your gas appliances (boiler, cooker, fire) please contact us on 020 8778 6699. In cases of emergency, you can contact us via that number 24 hours a day.
